“When there is love for mankind, there is love for the art of healing.”
Hippocrates
Reflexology
Reflexology is an Ancient Healing Art that has been known to man for
many thousands of years. It was first practiced by the early Indians, Chinese and
Egyptian peoples. Reflexology is a Holistic Therapy in which the whole body is
treated. It is a non- invasive, deeply relaxing, effective, natural approach to healing based
on the premise that there are reflex points in the hands and feet that correspond to
every part of the body.
Stimulating these reflexes by applying pressure to the hands or feet can promote
healing, balance and overall functioning of the body, relieve pain, reduce tension
& stress, improve nerve function and increase circulation to the entire system,
balance hormones, support the immune system, improve sleeping patterns, increase
energy, help with weight loss, and bring the whole body system into harmony and a
state of good health.
How Does Reflexology Help When There Is A State Of Illness, Stress, Injury, or Disease?
- When there is a state of illness, stress, injury, or disease, a blockage can result in
the vital energy pathways of the body and an imbalance can occur.
- The blockage within the body disrupts circulation and causes interference with
the normal activity of the organs, nerves and muscles.
- When you remove the obstruction, energy can once again circulate and balance is
maintained.
- This can allow healing to naturally take place. Reflexology can be used to restore
and maintain the body’s balance and promote healing within the body.
Give your feet or hands the tender loving care that can
promote wellness in your body.
“Reflexology is nature’s ‘push button’ secret for dynamic living, abundant physical energy, vibrant health, and youthful vigor.”

How Long Has Reflexology Been A Therapy?
* Reflexology finds its roots in cultures around the world. It
dates back as far as ancient Egypt.
* In the 1930’s, a therapist named Eunice Ingham, began
developing foot reflex theory. She discovered the reflex points
in the feet that correspond to all the systems and parts of the
body. She is known as the Mother of Reflexology.
How Reflexology Helps To Dissolve Stress & Tension
* Stress and anger can cause extreme tension within the body that can make us age
sooner and become physically ill and emotionally upset easily. Stress can put a
strain on the whole body. It depletes energy, absorbs nutrients from the system, and
causes a hormone imbalance.
* Reflexology helps to balance and normalize the system, creating a feeling of
well-being and calmness, When stress and tension leave the body the mind will
also become relaxed.
Reflexology and Endorphins
* Endorphins are substances released by the brain that have pain-releasing
(similar to morphine), tranquilizing, calming and euphoric effects on the body.
* Reflexology stimulates the body to release endorphins, which results in a
relaxed feeling and reduced pain.
How Reflexology Can Help In The Following Areas:
Please note Reflexologist do not diagnose nor prescribe at any time in any manner.
Bunions - Inflammation and thickening of the bursa of the joint of the great toe.
A Reflexologist will use a a basic thumb technique and work all around and then
directly on the bunion. Directions can be given for daily work by the client,
Spurs- Are formed by a mineral buildup on the end of the calcaneus bone in the
heel. The Reflexologist will work the area around the spur with the thumb
technique and once the area is loosened up the Reflexologist will work directly on
the spur.
Corns and Calluses - Can be caused when a person’s spine or hip is out of
alignment. These conditions could affect the reflexes in that area, which could
affect the organs, glands or parts of the body associated with it. A Reflexologist
will work around the area to ease the pain of this condition first, then as it becomes
less sensitive the entire area will be worked.
Bursitis - Inflammation of the bursa. Examples: Tennis elbow, bursitis of the
shoulder and knee. When these conditions prevail, a Reflexologist will spend extra
time to the reflex to the afflicted area and also to the adrenal glands.
Arthritis - Enlargement of the bones around the joints. There are many causes for
arthritis. The reflexologist will spend extra time to the reflexes to the afflicted
area as well as all the glands.
Muscular Tension- Tension is often times manifested in the trapezius and deltoid
muscles of the back and shoulders. A Reflexologist will work across the top of the
foot from the great toe to the little toe in the metatarsal areas, particularly the
groves between the toes. Tension is also relieved by working the diaphragm/solar
plexus reflex area.
Muscles - The Reflexologist will work the Adrenal Glands which give the body’s
muscles their tone.
Numbness in arms and hands- A Reflexologist will work the neck and cervical
reflexes, working the shoulder reflex often helps.
Back Pain - A very important part of one’s well being depends on the condition of
the spine.
* When the spine is out of alignment the body can not function in perfect health.
* The largest percentage of back pain is from the tension in the muscles that
surround the spine.
* When strain is put on a muscle in the back area, it tends to tighten and pull on
certain vertebrae, which causes the spine to be pulled out of alignment.
* A Reflexologist can press on certain reflex buttons to open up
channels that allow the healing life energy to flow to the
malfunctioning area of the body. When the life force once more
flows it brings nature’s healing power into play.
* The spine is a vital area to the Reflexologist, and especially the
lower back for such conditions as migraine headache,
constipation, prostrate and female disorders. Often these are
manifestations of stress or tension that have settled in the spine.
Lymphatic Drainage- The lymphatic system drains foreign matter, , cellular debris
and toxins from the cells and carries them to the bloodstream for disposal. The
thymus gland is involved in the flow of lymph throughout the body. The
Reflexologist will reflex the lymphatic system and the thymus gland to improve
lymphatic drainage and to regulate energy flow throughout the body energy
system.
Broken Bones
Broken Bones- The Reflexologist will work all the referral areas on the same side
as the injury.
Broken hand - Reflexologist will work corresponding area of the foot
Broken Leg - Reflexologist will work the corresponding area of the arm at the
corresponding site of the break.
Broken Arm - Reflexologist will work the corresponding area of the leg.
Broken Finger - Reflexologist will work the corresponding area of the toe.
For sprains - A Reflexologist will work the referral area to stop inflammation and
swelling.
Eyesight
*If there is tightness of muscles around the eyes, they may pull on the eyeball,
distort its shape and cut off circulation, which can cause near and far sightedness.
*Tight eyelid muscles may cause friction on the eyeball which can lead to the
formation of cataracts.
*If the eye muscles in the back of the head are tight, this can cause a build up of
fluid resulting in glaucoma.
*When the reflexes to the eyes are stimulated you give renewed energy and life to
the eyes.
Weight Issues - Reflex the Pituitary Gland to help prevent an excessive
accumulation of fat. Give special attention to this gland when trying to loose
weight.
Growth- The pituitary gland stabilize the growth rate to normal whether a child is
growing too fast or too slow. It is responsible for proper growth of our body glands
and organs. If this area is tender, it should be massaged often.
Extracellular Growth (benign or malignant) - The pituitary gland is responsible
for cellular growth and the Reflexologist will work this gland when there is
extracellular growth.
Behavior Issues in children- A study found that disobedience, bullying,
moroseness, and many types of child delinquency were cause by a faulty pituitary
gland. Working this reflex may help in these areas.
Insomnia - Sleeplessness or inability to fall asleep. A reflexologist will work the
diaphragm and all glands, especially the pineal gland, which secretes the hormone
melatonin. The role of melatonin is to coordinate the circadian rhythms of the body
( Waking and Sleeping). A Reflexologist can teach reflex points to use for a restful
sleep.
Flatulence or buildup of gases that cause distention- A Reflexologist can help
alleviate these problems by working the reflexes to the digestive system ( liver,
stomach, intestines, gallbladder, and pancreas) where foods are broken down into
tiny pieces. Also, working the reflexes to the colon and duodenum can help release
excessive gas buildup in the stomach or intestines.
Reflexology Before and After Surgery
Reflexology is beneficial for stimulating the circulation for natural healing
processes both before and after surgery. A reflexologist will also work the reflex to
the adrenal gland, thyroid, and pituitary to stimulate needed hormones.
Overcoming Mood Swings and Depression
The endocrine glands strengthen and regulate body rhythms, as well as balance
chemical and emotional functions, which will have a direct affect on your mood.
*Your entire personality and mental outlook is affected by the health of the
endocrine glands. A Reflexologist will pay special attention to reflex these glands.
*The thyroid is a reflex button that Reflexologist will work to bring on a good
mood. Tests have shown that when the function of the thyroid is decreased,
depression or negative emotions can result.
*A Reflexologist will also work the the reflexes to the liver, lungs, solar plexus, and
brain to help overcome depression.
* A sluggish liver can cause stress and upset the entire system
